GREETINGS, ADVENTURER!

Today’s Quest: Find out if your soul is pure enough for The Great Event. Once your afterlife is settled, join your fellow geniuses for a matter of life and death, plus Fix Your Mother’s Printer next week!

First time here? Adventure Snack is a game series I email to subscribers. Play quests for free, twice a month, and turn your inbox into an adventure!

THIS IS YOUR QUEST…

⏳ Estimated Playtime: 5 minutes

You are floating through a dark tunnel at an unfathomable speed. Like Space Mountain, but more so.

There’s a pinpoint of light ahead of you that’s getting larger and larger. A cacophony of voices echo around you, but one voice rises above them all, and it’s getting closer. You can’t make out exactly what the voice is saying, but the tone is unmistakably chipper.

The light washes over you like the warmth of a hotel shower on a cold November business trip. As your eyes adjust to the brightness, you see a figure in the distance…

Move Toward the Light

📝 Note: This quest is hosted on Itch.io under the name Welcome to Soulmerge. To play, click “Run game.”

I designed this quest for O2A2, a visual novel game jam where you can only use one asset of different types (one character, one background, one soundtrack, etc.) It was a fun challenge!

TAKE YOUR SEAT AT…

The Council of Geniuses

🧠 Fellow Smartie: You have been summed to this meeting of the Council of Geniuses to solve a most tricky of problem!

❓ You die and arrive at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter says Heaven is currently “at capacity,” which is the only reason you are being sent to Limbo for eternity. Unless you convince a loved one already in Heaven to trade places with you. The only person you know in Heaven is your beloved mother, who often said she’d do “anything” for you.

🇦 Go to Limbo – You love your mom too much to ask her to sacrifice her eternity.

🇧Ask Mom to Swap Places – She said she’d do anything for you. There was no expiration date on her offer.

Offer your own reasoned solution, comment on another’s solve, or do both – with kindness and good humor, the marks of a rad adventurer.

NEXT WEEK: FIX YOUR MOTHER’S PRINTER!

🖨️ Back in April, you voted to bring Fix Your Mother’s Printer (FYMP) to life. I’ve been developing the game ever since, and next week, you’ll finally be able to play a closed beta!

Here’s what you need to know for next week:

  • You’ll be getting a closed beta of FYMP in your inbox.

  • The beta is for Adventure Snack subscribers only. (It’ll be password protected.)

  • You’ll have the opportunity to give feedback and help make the game better!

  • FYMP is ~1 hour of gameplay, the longest game I’ve ever developed solo.

  • FYMP will be submitted to this year’s IFComp. Last year, I had the highest ranked short game in the competition.

  • That’s it I hope you like it I still have work to do on it aaaaaugh!

Very excited to share FYMP with you next week!

Got rejected on my first run, accepted on the second, and returned to my body on the third. Felt like I learned the most from being actively hostile.

Interesting that you're branching out into visual novels. Is this still Ink or something else?
