According to what I've read, one way to fix a leaky blender is to replace the gasket, a rubber ring that lives below the jar. Sure enough, when I look at the gasket, it's worn out and broken. Mystery solved, right?
So I asked Ninja if I could buy a replacement rubber gasket for the blender. Not get a free one, purchase one. And they refuse to sell one to me. They won't say why! And I'm not sure if anyone makes a gasket that'll fix the blender precisely. So I'd love to put a kid detective on the Case of the Missing Gasket.
That's so frustrating! But why sell you a $2 gasket when they could possibly sell you a whole new blender? I'm sure you can find a replacement out there somewhere! There are companies that specialize in that stuff...
Ha! I sense you have a lot of messy trial and error in your future. But seriously, a vendor on Amazon probably has the exact ones. My local mechanic found an obscure part for my 1996 pickup truck on Amazon :-/ It’s insane what you can find.
I liked clicking on all the different prompts, interesting change in format from the past stories. Poor kid, already burnt out at a young age. In my experience the key to dealing with burn out is to take a break and remember why the thing you do was fun in the first place.
My little mystery is that somebody has been linking to my posts on facebook and I can't find out who. Learned advanced googling tricks to search for it, but the linker must be keeping it private since it still isn't appearing. Maybe a dedicated internet detective could find out, but I've gone as far I'll go with this.
Glad you enjoyed the final chapter! Yeah, like Joey, we all need to relax and take breaks every so often.
I get why that's a lingering mystery for you. As a writer, I want to know what folks are saying about me and my work. Somehow I think a young kid would be able to solve an internet mystery like that easier than we could.
Well, I suppose it was the most “realistic” ending. That convoluted mess had to be a kid’s imagination. (Or a bunch of big kid’s imaginations.) 🤣 It’s fun to pretend. 🤓
The first time I read this chapter, like Thomas Bubb, I couldn't get past the whole Encyclopedia Brown feel. But while re-reading, I realized I had missed all of the linked snippets that added so much character to the ending. It really is the icing on the cake of "The Grisly Ghosts of Gruesome Time!" Well done!
Last stop, the kid dimension where all this madness gets dreamed up and doesn't have to make complete sense since, well... you're a kid! Lovely chapter, Geoffrey. I'm sure as long as this innocent Joey is safe, the others will remain fine... right? 😅
This was so much fun! I still have to catch up with a few of the story chapters, but I love the ending :-) Ah, those days of make-believe... And those kids have some amazing imaginations!
My low-stakes mystery is probably what the hell is eating my strawberries? I built these elaborate fruit cages to keep critters away from my plants, and as soon as anything ripens, some little furry jerk still manages to creep in there and get all my raspberries and strawberries!
So glad you liked the ending! I wanted to do right by a whole summer of fun writing.
Wow, sorry about your critter problem. This creature is crafty. All I can imagine is the gopher from Caddyshack dancing to Kenny Loggins while eating your berries.
Very entertaining, Geoffrey! I do find myself torn though, but I’ll stitch it up and get over it. I love the way you incorporated your adventure snack theme and the way it made my reminisce about Encyclopedia Brown!
However, this also means I don’t get the big finish it felt like Meagan was setting up.
Oh well it was an entertaining read and I’m so glad I got to be a part of this whole process! Last note: thanks for the shout-out back to my chapter! I laughed out loud when I read that piece.
Glad it was entertaining! Meagan wrote that we had to go back to the past, so I thought it'd be fun for our story, which began as a detective parody, to end as a "kid detective" parody. I was also inspired by the idea of "playing pretend," which is how we all spent our summer together.
Good, I'm happy you found that. I very much enjoyed your chapter.
Thank you Geoffrey! I straight up loved the kid detective angle that was a home run and you’re right it’s been a blast playing pretend! I also really like the last sentence in all of your possible endings! That’s a high quality last sentence for this crazy ride in my opinion 👍👍

“Mystery solved. The culprit is… capitalism!”
Thank you. Maybe I can find a bag of them at varying sizes. I can’t even measure how big it is, because it’s that broken, lol.

Great fun, Geoffrey. Not sure if we saved the universe but maybe at least one of them. So long and thanks for the finish. 🎉
Thank you! In my opinion, we either saved enough of the universe or the universe is saved enough.

I resisted the urge to put it all in a snowglobe!
🤣🤣🤣 That would have been great! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you, Todd! So glad you enjoyed it.
That's a good gameplay note. In a perfect world, I could change the link color on my emails, so links would pop out more. 🤔

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Well, at the very least, innocent Joey in the kid dimension is probably safe!

That would make the loss of berries totally worth it :-)
