GREETINGS, ADVENTURER!
Today’s quest is designed for Earth’s mightiest adventurer. (You!) We’ll compare caped crusaders in Table Talk, I’m entering a writing relay race, and giving away free books this month. Tally ho!
TODAY’S QUEST:
The Mighty Ogre enters your Zoom room. His pale blue face looks sullen. He looks uncomfortable, scratching an itch on his enormous barrel chest. Behind him is a sloppy bedroom full of broken furniture. Super strength can defeat an evil maniac bent on world domination, but more easily, a cheaply made sofa bought online.
"I'm here for my free consultation," grunts the Mighty Ogre, baring his sharp teeth. "My friend Supremo recommended me. My problem is that I should be on a major hero team. But I was rejected by The Justice Boys, The Mountain Time Defenders, and even Heroes Ltd, which I thought accepted anyone who paid the submission fee. Maybe my powers aren't special enough. I'm strong. I can lift a car. But a lot of guys can do that, and they aren't butt ugly. So, what should I do?"
What advice will you give The Mighty Ogre?
LET’S CHAT!
When your quest is complete, it’s time to debrief. Join your fellow adventurers at the virtual D&D table we call the comments section. Just don’t turn this into an intervention about my dice collection. It’s an investment, mom.
Discuss one (or all) of today’s topics:
💪 How did you advise The Mighty Ogre and why?
🦹 If you were a superhero, who would be your arch enemy?
❓ Which did you like better: The Batman or Dr. Strange 2? I love a smart mystery with a social justice angle, and I also love a bizarre rollick through the multiverse. Honestly, I thought they were both pretty darn good, but I definitely preferred one to the other. In the spirit of superhero cliffhangers, read my preference by hitting the red button below.

ONE STORY ACROSS THE NEWSLETTER MULTIVERSE
I’m participating in The Great Substack Story Challenge. 12 fiction writers with newsletters will continue the same story, week after week, with only a single week to complete each chapter. As if that wasn’t enough, on the last week of the challenge in August, I’m going to give this multi-headed beast of a story multiple endings. The journey begins May 26th and caps off right here on August 18th. Learn more about the challenge and these amazing authors here.

For me, the act of watching The Batman was less fun than watching Multiverse of Madness. The Batman felt overly long. Not in a boring way, but in an "Oh god, I thought it was over..." kind of way. If The Batman was a mini-series on HBO Max, I would've enjoyed it a lot more. But also, I grew up on Marvel comics, and X-Men specifically, so those characters do more for me on a pure nostalgia / emotional heart-tug level. Plus, right now I'm very into bonkers b-movies, and that's the vibe of the second half of Dr. Strange 2. So yeah, I'll give it to the MCU, but with all due respect to The Bat.
I wanted the ogre to rebrand and I'm really excited to get my cut of the dildogre's sales!!!!
