Something I admire about my dad is that he’s very creative. Like me, he works in different mediums. He writes musicals and short plays, and puts on photography shows. When I was a kid, he used to design board games. They were really fun! He designed a grid-based strategy game that made a splash at a NYC game show, a fast-paced roll-and-move themed to horse racing, and a homemade marble shoot my sister and I just loved. I might not have gotten into game development if it wasn’t for him.

Never met my biological father, which is great for 5 minutes of open mic comedy but not so hot in other ways. Off the top of my head I'd choose Clell Hazard, James Caan's character in Gardens of Stone as my fictional father.

I hear ya. I've never seen Gardens of Stone, but I'm looking at screenshots of James Caan from the film and Clell looks like a dad you can rely on.

He plays a "co-father figure" (with James Earl Jones) to Jackie Willow, played by DB Sweeney. Jackie is the son of a deceased colleague. It has been a while since I've seen it but I bet it holds up. Rock promoter Bill Graham plays an antiwar activist.

LMAO some of these jokes read very lived-in!

Something I always loved about my dad is that he really cares about play and hobbies! He got an NES when I was like, 3, lol. As kids he always had us learning something new, whether it was card tricks, building car/train models, or going on weird field trips like the summer we followed the newspaper fish reports. Also he has nunchucks and is good at them!

The second time through, my Mole-dad invited me to live with him. A feat of compassion I think my own further wouldn't muster. All in all, I feel a great kinship with big ol' Groozler.

I can’t think of any fictional dads that stand out to me, but my dad is pretty cool. He’s turning 80 this year, and just bought his second recumbent bike. Last year for his birthday he rode his bike from Afton Illinois to Grafton Illinois, about 15 miles along the great river road. He has been doing some pretty amazing oil paintings, after having been a photographer all of my life. He’s had his artwork and galleries, sold it at art shows, and most recently had a one-man show at a prestigious gallery in Illinois. He’s also retired from a career as a systems analyst and programmer who most recently did all the data analysis for the city of St. Louis Police Department, all without finishing his college degree and having taught himself computing back in the 60s. And just a couple nights ago, he fixed my leaky sink. So he’s pretty awesome. :-)

He sounds like a super dad! I can only hope to be 1/3rd as active in my 80s. Mostly I imagine myself eating a deli sandwich and complaining to the nurse that my Metaverse brain helmet is too itchy.

Yeah, I’m with you. He has more energy than I do! And that’s with congestive heart failure, a pacemaker, and God knows what else going on for him. He’s amazing.

These are always so much fun. I retweeted before I even read it. 🙃

That’s a good question. I admire a lot of things about my dad, from him showing me self-reliance by example, to the dances he did when I did well in school. There was a time when I was a kid where we’d be able to sit together on a long drive and say virtually nothing. I haven’t felt comfortable doing that with anyone else. Seems weird but it almost means a connection without words. Pretty powerful.

Are you trying to make me misty-eyed?? Is this part of the game??

Yes, you’ve got a high score on the Self Reflexion Leaderboard!!!

Wonderful that you had such a strong connection with your dad. I love that. Some of my favorite memories with my dad were long drives where he played me classic rock mix tapes he made to teach me about his favorite bands.
